Plasma Therapy |
The Nepal Red Cross Society has started blood collection for plasma therapy to help and treat corona virus infection. Khim Bahadur Ranabhatt was the first to donate blood for plasma therapy. He was cured of corona infection a few days ago. He said that, he had never donated blood before, but he came to donate blood after realizing that his blood would help other infected people.
The Red Cross has started this service in collaboration with various organizations as per the request of Nepal Health Research Council (NHRC). The Red Cross will set up technical manpower, plasma bags and other necessary materials for plasma donation and establish a plasma bank. Red Cross has also made necessary preparations to honor the plasma donors.
In the campaign , Nilkaji Shakya of Kathmandu Metropolitan City said that, he will search the infected people (who are already cured) and motivate them to donate blood.
In collaboration with local hospitals, The Red Cross Society has also started blood transfusion services in Sunsari, Chitwan, Bhaktapur, Butwal, Nepalgunj and Kailali. It is said that such service will be started soon in Dhanusha and Pokhara.
The Doctors' Associations stated that, the effectiveness of plasma therapy is still under investigation. And it will not affect the donor physically or mentally. The president of the association, Dr. Karki urged everyone to be involved in this lives saving campaign.
